The process of upgrading radio communication systems for Beaver County EMS is progressing. However, the direction it is taking has angered the public of a company who believe it is the wrong direction.

Eric Brewer, Beaver County EMS Manager

EMS Director Eric Brewer at the March 30 commissioners’ working session spoke about a letter he received from Kenwood Corporation regarding Brewer’s decision to choose Motorola products for the upgrade. communications. Brewer said the letter called the decision a “bad decision,” but the decision he made is one he stands by.

“We knew Motorola was more expensive,” Brewer said, “it’s just that we think it’s a better product.” Brewer added that the system is similar to units used in adjacent counties such as Allegheny and Butler with their EMS communications.

The stewards also sided with Brewer’s decision: “I think we’ve been pretty clear,” added Jack Manning. “That’s our purpose, and that’s what we’re going to do…if you want to buy Kenwoods, go buy Kenwoods.”

“We’d rather not have a bunch of junk on the system,” Brewer said.

The next working session of the Commissioners is scheduled for April 6 at 10:00 a.m.
